Resources

The following resources, Building Values Across the Whole School and Supporting Student Wellbeing Through Values Education, form part of the Values for Australian Schooling series of resources to support schools in implementing the National Framework for Values Education in Australian Schools. These resources were delivered to Principals at all Australian schools in early May 2009. Additional copies may also be downloaded by schools from this website.

Building Values Across the Whole School

Building_cover_primary.jpgBuilding Values Across the Whole School consists of two components: primary and secondary Teaching and Learning Units and a Professional Learning Program.

There are sixteen Teaching and Learning Units for primary years comprising eight units each for Early years and Middle childhood, and sixteen units for secondary years with eight units each for Early adolescence and Later adolescence. Utilising key principles of values education good practice, the units deliver a sequence of teaching and learning activities and model how values concepts, understandings and practices can be integrated within curriculum contexts.

The Professional Learning Program promotes teacher learning about values education and supports teachers as they impart values within all areas of the curriculum.

Supporting Student Wellbeing Through Values Education: A Resource Package

Supporting_cover_secondarySupporting Student Wellbeing Through Values Education: A Resource Package is designed to support schools in integrating values in curricular and extracurricular contexts to develop student responsibility, social skills, resilience and wellbeing.

The separate primary and secondary books each consist of two components. Understanding Values is a set of six dilemma-based learning sequences which can be linked to key learning areas. The dilemmas require students to explicitly examine the values that underpin people’s actions and the choices they make about complex issues.

The second component, Values in Action, supports values learning through activities and projects outside the formal curriculum. The six modules provide scaffolds with which to build authentic and practical experiences for students to live and practise the values the school is fostering.
