Day of Understanding is an opportunity for staff and students of Victorian secondary schools to participate in a day devoted to celebrating cultural diversity and community engagement. This free event is expected to attract up to 1000 students from 25 schools. The event is hosted by a cluster of schools, The Melbourne Interfaith and Intercultural Cluster, from the Values Education Good Practice Schools Project – Stage 2. The schools in the cluster are: St Monica's College, Epping; Australian International Academy, Coburg; The King David School, Armadale; Thornbury High School, Thornbury; and Siena College, Camberwell.

Students from the cluster schools will showcase work developed through the Values Education Good Practice Schools Project such as:
student music and drama performances and exhibition of student art
Socratic Circle discussion conducted by students on values of understanding and inclusion as they contribute to social cohesion
panel of representatives from different faith and cultural backgrounds speak about diversity in Australian society free teacher resource materials on 'Tips for starting your own Values Education cluster of schools in your local area' and 'Using the Socratic Circle discussion methodology'.

The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, the Association of Independent Schools Victoria, and the Catholic Education Commission of Victoria are supporting this event as one of the key features of the 2008 values education programme.
