Values Education and the Australian Curriculum
|Values Education and the Australian Curriculum will support teachers and schools to make full use of key values education resources to meet new requirements in the first four learning areas (English, science, mathematics and history) of the Australian Curriculum. It will also support schools in meeting the requirements in two other aspects of the Australian Curriculum: the general capabilities (especially in information and communication technology, critical and creative thinking, personal and social competence, ethical behaviour and Intercultural understanding) and cross-curriculum priorities (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and culture, Australia’s engagement with Asia, and sustainability). These key values resources were funded by the Australian Government as part of the national Values Education Program. |
A curriculum map of the three dimensions of the Australian Curriculum (learning areas, general capabilities and cross-curriculum priorities) reveals the extent to which the key values education resources currently in existence can support schools to develop students who meet the goals of the Melbourne Declaration of becoming active and informed citizens.
An accompanying document, Appendix A: Key values education resources, provides a description of the resources. The majority of the teacher resources may be found in this section of the website and the research reports in the Good practice in schools section.
