Delivery of forums in schools in the ACT

The ACT values education forums officer will be responsible for the rollout of the project, including:

  • assisting schools, independently or in clusters, to consider the strategies and forum styles that best service their needs, and encouraging and assisting schools to apply for funding to conduct a values education forum;
  • coordinating and providing professional support to schools to conduct their forums (including showcasing best practice); and
  • informing schools about the Australian Government values education resources and the national Values Education website (including updating resource information links on our ACT DET website).

Information regarding values education school forums in ACT schools and the application for funding and reporting of school forums can be found at http://www.det.act.gov.au/teaching_and_learning/curriculum_programs/student_wellbeing/values_education. Contact Ms Kristy Aitchison (see contact details above) for further information.

Curriculum in the ACT is school-based

A new curriculum framework is currently being introduced in the ACT. Every Chance To Learn – Curriculum for ACT Schools P–10 Principles and Framework was launched in March 2005. It is a work in progress and will be developed in three phases. We are currently in Phase 1, which outlines the principles and framework of the curriculum.

ACT schools promote student understanding and knowledge of values through whole school approaches, student welfare programmes, and embed them explicitly and implicitly in the curriculum. The ACT values education projects will assist our schools to analyse current and future practice in values education in partnership with their school communities.

Values education projects are already underway in the ACT with the Australian Government Quality Teacher Program ACT Values Education Project.
