From January 2007, the application procedures and funding payment arrangements for holding Values Education Forums have changed:

CATHOLIC SCHOOLS need to contact Terry Creagh from the Queensland Catholic Education Commission (QCEC) for information details to access their funding.
Phone: 07 3336 9310
Email: terryc@qcec.qld.catholic.edu.au

INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS need to contact Jenene Rosser from Independent Schools Queensland (ISQ) for information details to access their funding.
Phone: 07 3228 1575
Email: jrosser@aisq.qld.edu.au

GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS – There is now the opportunity for Districts and Regions to hold ‘Mega Cluster’ Forums. However, if schools want to hold their own Values Education Community Forum or work with a small cluster – and their Region/District has not yet accessed their funding – they need to contact Brenda Little directly for an application form (see contact details above), or download an application form from the Queensland Values Education website at http://education.qld.gov.au/curriculum/values/valuesed_forums.html.

School forum snapshot

 Rochedale State School (PDF),Queensland

Vicky King is a teacher whose enthusiasm for values education was the catalyst for Rochedale State School’s values education school forum. The forum was used by the school community as way of agreeing to a common values education strategy and was the start of their values journey.

Values Education Project – Queensland

In January 2005 Queensland received DEST funding to develop an inter-systemic project titled Values Education Project – Queensland to support the State’s schools in planning and holding their values education school forums. This is a joint initiative of Education Queensland, the Catholic Education Commission and the Association of Independent Schools of Queensland Inc. that will run until 2008.

Local support for values education in independent schools in Queensland

Mrs Jenene Rosser is a Senior Education Officer with The Association of Independent Schools of Queensland Inc (AISQ) and her role is to support all independent schools in Queensland with their curriculum (based on the eight key learning area syllabuses developed by the Queensland Studies Authority) from Preschool to Year 10. Values education is interpreted differently in individual independent schools. Some independent schools have very formal programmes on values education while others embed values education within the ethos and mission of the school. Mrs Rosser will be supporting teachers from independent schools to locate opportunities within the key learning area syllabuses to enhance students' understandings about values. AISQ is involved in a cross-sector project to support values education across all government, Catholic and Independent schools in Queensland. AISQ will also offer targeted support through workshops and seminars to assist independent schools in their work in values education. As an example, Mrs Rosser is holding workshops on drug education in terms 1 and 2, 2005 and a significant area of discussion in these workshops is the impact of the school's values on drug education policy.
